Michael Atzwanger received his J.D. degree from the Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore in Milan in 1990, and the postgraduate degree in International Banking and Finance Law from Boston University in 1993. He is a Lecturer in “Economics of Pension Funds” at the Italian Universities of Trento and Macerata. He is a member of the technical commissions of A.E.I.P. (European Association of Paritarian Institutions of Social Protection), of IPE 360°, of the Board of Directors of Assoprevidenza/Fonprevidenza, the Italian association of pension funds; and of the “Pension Group” within Assogestioni. Michael Atzwanger is working since 2000 as a Managing Director of PensPlan. He is also member of the board of directors of the life insurance company Itas Vita s.p.a., ISA s.p.a. and Banca di Trento e Bolzano s.p.a. (Intesa-SanPaolo Group) all headquartered in Trento (ITA). Before his present occupation he practised as a lawyer in Milan and New York. He is further acting as a consultant in pension matters to the benefit of other Regions in Italy and Europe, other financial institutions, multinationals and Italian National Institutes for Social Security.
Tito Boeri currently is Professor of Economics at Bocconi University, Milan and acts as Scientific Director of the Fondazione Rodolfo Debenedetti. He is a research fellow at CEPR, IZA and Igier-Bocconi. His field of research is labour economics, redistributive policies and political economics. His papers have been published in the American Economic Review, the Journal of Economic Perspectives, Economic Policy, the European Economic Review, the Journal of Labour Economics, and the NBER Macroeconomics Annual. He has published 7 books with Oxford University Press and MIT Press. After obtaining his Ph.D. in economics from New York University, he was a senior economist at the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development from 1987 to 1996. He has also been a consultant to the European Commission, the IMF, the ILO, the World Bank and the Italian Government. He is the founder of the economic policy watchdog website and the scientific director of the Festival of Economics.
Peter Borgdorff has spent most of his career in the world of social partners. He was secretary of the Association of Christian entrepreneurs in the baking industry company (Bond van Christelijke Ondernemers in het Bakkersbedrijf) and from that position he was also secretary of the employers league. He then worked for six years for paritarian organizations that were entrusted with innovation, quality assurance, education and collective promotion. He subsequently transferred to the trade unions, where he supervised the merger between two unions (VHP and De Unie). Since 2002 Peter Borgdorff is Managing Director of the The Dutch Association of Industry-wide Pension Funds. Next to that he is member of the board of the Pension Fund for Protestants Ministers and member of the board of a Dutch Institute for Education in Pensions founded by Dutch Pension Funds (Stichting Pensioenopleidingen).
Lans Bovenberg obtained his Ph.D. in 1984 at the University of California, Berkeley. He started his working career as an economist at the International Monetary Fund in Washington D.C (1985-1990), after which he worked at the Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs in the Hague. He was deputy director of CPB Netherlands Bureau for Economic Policy Analysis (Centraal Planbureau) and became a professor of economics at Tilburg University in 1998, where he served as scientific director of the Center for economic research (CentER). In 2004, he won the Spinoza prize as the second social scientist. With the prize money, he founded Netspar (Network for Studies on Pensions, Aging and Retirement) in which various pension funds, insurance companies, public agencies and universities participate. He is currently scientific director of Netspar. Lans Bovenberg has published extensively in the leading international journals on a wide variety of topics: public economics, tax policy, environmental economics, institutional economics, pensions and aging, international macroeconomics and labor economics. He is one of the most-cited Dutch economists in the international academic literature. At the same time, he has been the most cited Dutch economist in policy-oriented journals aimed at practitioners and policymakers for about one and a half decade now.
Henk Brouwer finished his education in General Economics at the Free University of Amsterdam in 1972. His working life started at the Ministry of Finance where he held a position as an economist. After that he became Deputy Director General for Staff Policy and socio-economic advisor to the Minister at the Ministry of the Interior. Afterwards he transferred to the Ministry of Social Affairs and employment where he was Director General for General Policy Issues. After visiting the commercial world as Member of the Board of Nederlandse Philipsbedrijven N.V. he returned to the Ministry of Finance as Treasure General. Since June 1st, 1997 he has a position at the Dutch Central bank as Executive Director. Other posts that he holds are: Chairman of the International Relations Committee (IRC) of the System of European Central Banks, Member of the Economic and Financial Committee (EFC) of the European Union, Member of the G10 (Group of Ten) Deputies (Chairman March 1999 – March 2003), Member of the Board of Trustees of Leyden State University, Member of the Board of ‘Vereniging Hendrick de Keyser’, and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Alatus.
Dario Frigerio got his honours degree in Economics from Bocconi University, Milan. He started his career at Credito Italiano as a Financial Analyst. He developed himself in Asset Management in Italy and abroad. He worked in Ireland, first as Chief investment officer for EuroPlus Research & Manangement and then turned Chief Executive Officer for Pioneer Investment Management. From this position he became Chief Executive Officer for Pioneer Global Asset Management. Currently he is Chief Executive Officer of Pioneer Global Asset Management Spa and Chief Executive Officer, Unicredit Private Banking SpA. Other posts that he holds are: Member of the Supervisory Board of Bank Austria Creditanstalt AG, Vienna, Member of the Supervisory Board of HVB, Munich, Member of AIAF –Italian Association of Financial Analyst. Dario is a member of Assogestioni (Italian Association of Asset Managers) and since 2006 also Vice President of the organization.
Fabio Galli graduated in 1991 in Finance & Economics from Bocconi University, Milan. He then joined the monetary and financial research centre of the university. From 1991 to 1995, he worked for JP Morgan, Gemina Capital Markets and Caboto Holding in Milan on derivatives trading and proprietory portfolio management. From 1995 to 1998 Fabio has worked for UBS in London as salesmen for institutional investors and in Lugano as head of derivatives sales for institutional clients in southern Europe.
In 2002 Fabio Galli was appointed Director General of Assogestioni. He had joined Assogestioni in 1998 as head of the research team and head of the Milan office. In 1999 was appointed to the board of directors of EFAMA and since 2005 served as chairman of the EFAMA Pensions Committee. During his years at Assogestioni Fabio has served in several self-regulatory and consultative bodies both domestically and in the international arena.
Jaap Maassen holds a Masters Degree in Law from Leiden University (1972) and a Masters Degree in Business Administration from the Technical University in Delft (1974).
He joined Shell Oil International in 1975 where worked in various overseas senior executive management assignments in Personnel, Finance, Oil & Chemicals Trading, and Pensions in Oman, Canada, UK, Hongkong and the Netherlands. In 1996 Jaap F. Maassen joined the executive Board of ABP – world’s second largest pension fund with assets amounting to some € 200 billion – where he is currently responsible for pensions and IT. Jaap F. Maassen was appointed in 2001 as vice-chairman of the European Federation for the Retirement Provision (EFRP). In October 2004 he was appointed as chairman of the EFRP.
Marcello Messori studied Business Science at the University of Turin and Sociology at the University of Trento. Between 1990 and 1997 he was a Professor of Monetary Economics at the University of Cassino and since 1997 he has been a Professor of Economics at the University of Rome ‘Tor Vergata’. Aside from his activities in Italy, he has been a visiting scholar and professor at several educational institutions around the world, such as Stanford University, M.I.T., Sydney University and the University of Paris. In 1999, his book ‘Financial constraints and market failures: the microfoundations of new Keynesian macroeconomics’ was published. Marcello Messori is president of Assogestioni, a member of the scientific board at Mediocredito Centrale and a member of the teaching board for the Dottorato di Ricerca in International Economics of the University of Rome ‘Tor Vergata’. Previously, he has held the position of economic advisor of the Prime Minister for Banking, Finance and Privatizations and he has been a member of the Economic Advisory Board of the Prime Minister. Some of his more recent papers have been published in Research in Economics, BNL Quarterly Review and the Journal of Banking and Finance.
Tommaso Padoa-Schioppa (to be confirmed) – Italian Economy and Finance Minister since May 2006 - graduated from the Bocconi University in Milan, Italy and received a Master of Science degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Mr. Padoa-Schioppa served as a member of the Executive board of the European Central Bank (1998-2005), Chairman of Consob - Commissione Nazionale per le Società e la Borsa (1997-98), Deputy Director-General of Banca d’Italia (1984-97) and Director General for Economic and Financial Affairs at the Commission of the European Communities (1979-83). He has been Senior Fellow of the Istituto Affari Internazionali (IAI, Rome), Chairman of the Trustees of the IASC Foundation, the oversight body to the International Accounting Standards Board (IASB), and Senior Adviser and Member of the Advisory Board of the Promontory Financial Group, LLC. Mr. Padoa-Schioppa is President of Notre Europe (Paris) and a member of the Group of Thirty since 1979 and of the Advisory Board of the Institute for International Economics (IIE, Washington DC). He has been President of the International Center for Monetary and Banking Studies (Geneva, 2001-06). He is author of numerous books and articles. Among the most recent: ‘Europa, una pazienza attiva’ (2006); ‘L’Euro e la sua banca centrale’ (2004); ‘Regulating Finance’ (2004); ‘Dodici Settembre’ (2002); ‘Europa, forza gentile’ (2001). He is Cavaliere di Gran Croce della Repubblica Italiana.
Henriëtte Prast holds a Masters from the Free University Amsterdam and a PhD from the University of Amsterdam. She is professor of Personal Financial Planning at the University of Tilburg, holding the Rabo/Netspar chair, and is an academic consultant to financial institutions and public organisations. Henriëtte Prast specialises in the effects of psychology on economic behaviour, notably life cycle saving and investments. She publishes in international academic journals and has been writing a column in the Financieele Dagblad since 2000. Henriëtte Prast is a board member of De Baak Managementcentrum VNO/NCW, Stichting de Gouden Ganzenveer, the Nibud, and Stichting Vrouw en Pensioenrecht. She is a Trustee of the Bureau Promotie Podiumkunsten and a member of the Advisory Board of De Uitvaartspecialist (the funeral planner). As of November 2007, she will be a non-executive board member of the Dutch State lottery (Staatsloterij) and of the Stichting Reclame Code Commissie, and she chairs the board of the Dutch Federation of Financial Planners. The publishing house Contact published her books Geld en Gevoel (Money and Sentiments, 2002) and Geld en Geluk (Money and Happiness, 2004), and in September 2007 Bert Bakker publishes her latest book entitled Een Jaar uit het Leven van een Gevoelseconoom (A year in the life of an emotion economist). Henriette Prast is working on a book, co-authored by Zvi Bodie, on the behavioral economics of life cycle planning and investing. This book, entitled Rational Rules for Irrational People, will be published in 2008.
Alexander Rinnooy Kan graduated in Mathematics from the University of Leiden. He got his Ph.D. degree from the University of Amsterdam and an honour degree in Economics from the Free University in Brussels. His first position was research assistant at the Mathematical Institute of the University of Leiden in 1969. This was followed by various functions within the Erasmus University in Rotterdam, divers research positions and also Director of Econometric Institute (1983-1986) becoming Rector of this University in 1986. In 1989 Alexander Rinnooy Kan continued his career as President of Federation of Netherlands Industries VNO and Member of the Executive Board of ING Group in 1996. In 2006 Alexander Rinnooy Kan became Chairman of Social and Economic Council of the Netherlands (SER).

Elio Schettino graduated in Political Sciences at the L.U.I.S.S. University in Rome and obtained a Scholarship on the Economy of UK pension funds from the University of Canterbury at Kent. His professional career started at the Industrial Relations Department of Telecom and continued at Confindustria where, since 1987, he has held several managerial positions. From 2001 to 2005 he was Director of the Pension, Welfare and Health Unit and, since 2006, he has directed the Taxation, Finance and Business Rights Unit. At present Elio Schettino is President of the Board of Previndai, Vice President of the Supervisory and Advisory Board of INPS and Vice President of the Executive Board of Fondazione Esarco. He is member of the Board of FASI, of the Board of Directors of ASSOFONDIPENSIONE and, since 2000, he is the delegate of Confindustria at BIAC (Business and Industry Advisory Committee OECD) in Paris.
Jeroen Tielman Jeroen completed his Business Economics studies at Erasmus University in Rotterdam in 1986. He started his career in 1986 with ABN AMRO as investment analyst and was a stockbroker with ABN AMRO Securities Inc. in New York between 1988 and 1992. Subsequently he joined the global telecom industry team of the Corporate Finance / M&A department. Between 1996 and 2000 he was global head product development of ABN AMRO Asset Management. In 2000 Jeroen resigned to found FundPartners as an independent product engineering boutique. NIBC fully acquired FundPartners in January 2005. Jeroen joined Cordares in February 2006 as managing director Strategy, Sales & Innovation. Between 2002 and 2004 Jeroen was a member of the jury team of the IPE European DB/DC themed awards.
Ignazio Visco graduated summa cum laude in Economics at the University of Rome. He completed his advanced training with an Ph.D. at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. He started his career in 1974 at the Bank of Italy in the Economic Research Department. In 1990 he became Head of the Research Department. In 1997 he switched to the OECD, serving on several international groups and committees. In 2004 he returned to the Bank of Italy where in January 2007 he was appointed Deputy Director General of the Bank of Italy. He is a member of the G-7 Deputies, the ECB International Relations Committee, the OECD Working Party 3 and the EU Economy and Finance Committee and an alternate member of the BIS Board of Directors.
Mr. Visco taught econometrics (1983-85) and economic policy (1989) at the University of Rome. He is the author of many articles and books. At present, he is co-editor of Politica economica (since 1990), member of the Advisory Group for Economics of the publishing house Il Mulino (since 2001) and of the Advisory Committee of Scuola Normale Superiore di Pisa (since 2002), and chairman of the scientific committee of the Center for Monetary and Banking Studies (Geneva, since 2005).
Adri Van der Wurff studied psychology at the University of Amsterdam and completed the Advanced Management Programme at Harvard Business School. He has been associated with various universities as an academic researcher and he obtained a doctor’s degree from the University of Amsterdam (UvA). Adri van der Wurff has been a member of the Board of Directors of Cordares since 1 June 2001. As of 1 October 2007, Adri van der Wurff will be the Chairman of the Board of Directors. He has been working for Cordares since 1989 and he has fulfilled positions in the areas of finance & control, new business development, marketing & sales, and the management of various business lines. In addition to being a member of the Board of Directors, he is also the chairman of the foundation SAV€. The aim of this foundation is to reduce administrative expenses by encouraging the government and the business community to work together on concrete solutions. Furthermore, he is an Employer’s member of the Cordares Employee Pension Fund.
